Katy Foxcroft receives community champion award

Katy Foxcroft, one of our champion dancers, was presented with the 2016 GMC Community Champion Award last week.

The award was presented to Katy by her dance teacher Monica Larking for competing in competitions for the academy and performing for numerous charity and community events in London for 10 years. She continues to be an inspiration to younger dancers here at the academy.

Jessica Carragher, co-founder of Carragher Academy, has taught Katy for the past 10 years and has done the choreography for Katy’s performances in competitions, where she has gone on to win 35 championship titles.

On receiving the award, Katy said: “I enjoy Irish dancing so much with everyone at the academy because it’s like we are all a family. Any dancer in this room can achieve the same success that I have had as long as they put their mind and efforts to it.”

Congratulations Katy!

A great year and looking forward to 2016!

2015 has been a great year for Carragher Academy! We ended the year with many dancers as champions and secured multiple top place finishes.

The Academy has taken part in the Scotland and European Championships and also gained 3 British Open Champions in May; well done to Katy Foxcroft, Megan Rogers and Taylor Slattery! The best and most fulfilling part was seeing our new generation of dancers win. We also performed at this year’s Bermondsey Carnival.

Our fundraising efforts have also been successful. We held a Danceathon in June a more fundraisers throughout the year. We are grateful to our patron, Prem Goyal, for match-funding our efforts and his continued support.

In addition, Prem’s support and advice has helped us secure a new training space at the Beormund Centre and we are looking forward to another year of success.

Everyone at Carragher Academy wishes you the very best for 2016!

Carragher Academy succeeds at European Championships

Our dancers achieved a spectacular result at the Celtic Association of Irish Dance European Championships last Monday, with two of our dancers, Katy Foxcroft and Erin Healey, winning championship trophies.

The championships, held in Essex this year, attract the best Irish dance schools from across the continent and our academy has achieve good results in the competition before.

After winning her championship trophy, Erin said: “I’m blown away. This is without a doubt one of the proudest moments of my life. I want to thank everyone at the academy and my family for supporting me.”

Many of our dancers also came third, forth and fifth in their respective categories, with many more earning places in the top 10.

Our patron, Prem Goyal, said: “The Academy’s talented dancers have made London and the UK proud again with their tremendous result at the European Championships. Their success means that Bermondsey is slowly becoming the nation’s capital for Irish dancing. I offer my wholehearted congratulations to all of the dancers on their success this year”.

We organised a very successful Irish Dance London Open 2014 last week, inviting 23 dance schools from across the capital to participate in the special tournament

Overall, 200 dancers participated in the event, which drew an amazing crowd of over 400 people.

All the dancers had a great time at the event and enjoyed the friendly competition between the different schools.

Our patron, Prem Goyal, welcomed guests and officially declared the start of the competition. He said he was inspired by the dancers’ competitive, but sporting, spirit.

Everyone had a great time and we received fantastic feedback from competitors, parents and supporters alike. A special well done to Sarah and Jessica Carragher for continuing to make Southwark and London proud.
